The tide crashes against the boulders and cliffs of Acadia National Park, Maine.

Photography Tip: Find a strong colorful foreground. Gorgeous sunrises are great but you need something of real interest along the bottom edge of the frame to balance out the composition. This is especially true when shooting landscapes with wide-angle lenses. The wider the lens, the more critical the foreground.

I will be teaching a *Coastal Maine Photography Workshop* at the historic Spruce Point Inn Resort & Spa this fall. This photography workshop is centered on the sea and its endless photographic possibilities.

We will float from island to island in our own private motorboat each day while out photographing beautiful harbors, remote lighthouses, and working lobster boats. This is a terrific opportunity to improve your photography while enjoying the cuisine and hospitality of Maine’s finest resort.

Enjoying a bottle of wine, and some veggies, as the sunsets over Boothbay Harbor at the beautiful Spruce Point Inn Resort and Spa, Maine.

I shot this photo last fall while teaching a Coast of Maine Photography Workshop at this fabulous seaside resort. We are working on plans right now to offer two more photography workshops this year: one in June and one in early September. More details soon…

Photography Tip: Sunsets are often challenging to photograph because the range of brightness exceeds the latitude of the digital camera's sensor. I shot three exposures here since I knew that no single frame could hold sufficient detail here in the sky and in the foreground. When I got home, I merged my frames together using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop's Merge to HDR feature. See http://bit.ly/LTfO0n for my video tutorial on this elegant image enhancement technique.
