Welcoming Willigan

Many years ago a colleague in the hotel business – a very influential meeting planner – told us that she traveled with a small stuffed penguin, and that she could always measure the sincerity of the guest service in a hotel by how the staff treated her penguin. On a similar note, we just heard from a guest who had purchased one of our stuffed moose, and had photos of “Willigan,” the moose, on their Maine adventures to prove his place in their hearts.

Whether penguins, moose, bears or our always-appreciated canine companions, Spruce Point Inn welcomes “hands, paws or anything they got” as part of the family experience we cultivate so carefully. With opening day less than a week away, we’re fine-tuning those small details, from the wording of the (delicious!) menu Chef Tim Fain and his culinary team have crafted to the timing of room preparations to ensure each guest find his or her room bright, comfortable and airy.

Maine typically shifts to high gear for the 4th of July, yet for all of us, the Memorial Day holiday (May 30th) is one that reminds us that summer is about family (and – we hope – sunshine). The hometown parades, the sparkle, the commitment to values we cherish bring us that feeling of promise and expectation for the season at hand. And while we remember well the reason for Memorial Day and salute the honored, we remind ourselves about helping to create “oceanside memories made in Maine” and the sincerity with which we greet every guest. Especially the moose.
