The publication of “The Maine Woods” by Henry David Thoreau remains a classic tribute to the Maine coast. A man who understood the inseparability of people and place – and who went to some trouble to immerse himself in the wild places he loved, from Walden Pond to Cape Cod to the White Mountains – it was Maine that Thoreau considered among the wildest of wild places.
The historic trails on Spruce Point are set in an old growth forest that spans over 40 acres of our private 100 acre peninsula.
The back roads of Spruce Point and the “east side” of the harbor provide a great way to explore our private peninsula. Enjoy a short ride to town for lunch at the Boathouse Bistro Roof Top or Red Cup. And if a one-way trip is all you are interested in — just let us know. We’ll come and pick you up in the SPI shuttle or Bright Line.

Since the 1930’s, Har-Tru made from granular green stone from Pennsylvania, has been used as a popular surface for tennis courts. Har-Tru “American” clay is easier on the body and reduces the incidence of common tennis injuries to the lower extremities. It’s also known to be 15 degrees cooler than hard surface tennis courts.
The two complimentary Har-Tru tennis courts at Spruce Point Inn are located just adjacent to The Spa. Reserve a court time at the front desk upon arrival. Tennis racquets and balls are available at any time.
The Inn’s tennis courts are open from mid June through mid-October.

Founded in 1980, Boothbay Region Land Trust (BRLT) is a non-profit organization working to conserve the natural beauty and character of the Boothbay region including the towns of Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Edgecomb, and Southport. They work with towns, land owners, residents, visitors and neighboring land trusts to conserve and steward the land.

Established in 1985 by husband and wife team Dennis and Martha Gleason, Gleason Fine Art has become a fixture on the local and statewide art scene. From the beginning, the Gleasons’ goal has been to offer the finest work by established painters and sculptors inspired by the beauty of Maine, especially its coast. Over the years, the Gleasons have placed work in some of Maine’s most important collections, including pieces now in the permanent collections of the Portland Museum of Art, Farnsworth Museum, and the Monhegan Museum. The gallery celebrates the rich art history of coastal Maine, particularly the long-standing connection between Boothbay Harbor and Monhegan Island.

For generations, the stage of the historic 1894 Opera House in Boothbay Harbor, Maine has played host to actors and musicians from around the state and around the globe. With over 100 events and performances annually, there is almost always something happening at the House – an evening with a Grammy winning musician, a visit from a Broadway actor, nights of jazz or bluegrass, rocking Celtic concerts, lectures, holiday celebrations and community events fill our schedule. With fine acoustics, historic charm, a great old bar room upstairs and a commitment to reasonably priced tickets, the Opera House is a gathering place for the local community and visitors alike.
The Boothbay Railway Village is a non-profit educational organization. Nowhere else in New England can you ride the rails behind an authentic steam locomotive surrounded by historic Maine buildings preserved in a recreated village, and view a collection of 60 antique autos. Throughout the season a wide variety of special events are hosted on the Museum’s Village Green from vintage ball games to car shows and family festivals.
